Our Story

In 1990, the Buote family opened the doors of North Rustico Home Hardware with a straightforward idea: give this corner of Prince Edward Island a building supply store it could count on. The village had always been a fishing community first, but families were building homes, fixing up cottages, and tackling projects year-round. They needed a place nearby where they could get good materials, honest advice, and fair prices without driving into Charlottetown.

What started as a neighbourhood hardware store grew steadily over the years. The Buotes earned Building Centre status, added a lumber yard, and built a team of people who genuinely know the products they sell. Contractors started relying on the store for framing packages and job-site delivery. Homeowners discovered the kitchen and bath showroom. Through it all, the family stayed behind the counter, and the approach never changed — treat every customer like a neighbour, because they are.

In 2018, the store completed a major expansion that doubled its footprint. The project added thousands of square feet of retail space, a modern showroom, and significantly more inventory. It was the biggest investment in the store's history, and it was driven by one thing: customers needed more, and the Buotes wanted to deliver. The expanded building centre lets the team stock deeper, display more, and serve people faster.

Three decades in, North Rustico Home Hardware Building Centre is part of the fabric of this community. The store sponsors minor hockey, supports the local fire department, and shows up for harbour days and village fundraisers. The Buotes are proud of what they've built — not just a business, but a place where people know they'll be taken care of. That's not going to change.
